Includes Corbin's political and legal correspondence (1874-1882), personal and family letters (1877-1900), and receipts (1877-1889) mostly from Charleston and New York, N.Y. Corbin's political and legal correspondence (1874-1882) of political, legal, and business career includes information about the transition of governments in S.C. (1877), Corbin's claims to South Carolina's U.S. Senate seat, financial matters, much railroad litigation including Corbin and Stone vs. S.C., disputes between Democrats and Republicans, Corbin's failed nomination to be Chief Justice of the Utah territory, requests for political appointments, and other matters concerning the end of Reconstruction. Also includes copies of letters (1875) between Corbin and Thomas Dunn, Comptroller General of S.C. concerning litigation of Dunn vs. S.C. Railroad, and a legal argument (1885) regarding railroad litigation in Illinois. Letters are from Columbia and Charleston, S.C., Washington, D.C., New York, and elsewhere. Corbin's personal and family letters (1877-1900) includes letters (1883-1900) from his second wife, Elizabeth Corbin, letters (1878-1881) from David Corbin to his wife, and letters (1877-1900) from other family members and friends concerning family matters, education, some references to politics, personal and social matters. Letters are from Charleston, S.C., Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, and Vermont.
